New Air Taxi Research Facility Breaks Ground in Oklahoma City
A new research facility for air taxis has commenced construction at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center, part of a $6 million initiative approved by Congress for the Advanced Air Mobility program. Construction of an air taxi research and operation facility has begun at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center, with completion expected by June 2024. This initiative is part of the Advanced Air Mobility and Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing Integration Pilot Program supported by a $6 million appropriation from Congress.
The facility will focus on integrating air taxis into the national airspace safely, exploring various applications such as transporting passengers to local airports and delivering medical supplies. The Department of Transportation emphasizes the importance of this facility in modernizing American airspace, indicating potential efficiency gains in various sectors, including offshore oil transport.
