A new fire department and sheriff's office substation is being built at the intersection of U.S. 190 and Rougon Road in Erwinville. West Baton Rouge Fire Chief Butch Browning stated the project, which has been in development for two years, aims to create a public safety center to improve emergency response times.

The new facility comes in response to community concerns following two deadly house fires in December 2025 and January 2026. The substation is projected to be operational by January 2027, staffed with two firefighters and two medics to enhance local emergency services.
