New Zealand's Defense Minister Leads Military Integration with Australia
Chris Penk becomes New Zealand's 44th Defense Minister, overseeing military integration with Australia. The NZDF and ADF aim for a fully integrated force by 2035, enhancing operational capabilities amid a changing security landscape.

Chris Penk has been appointed as New Zealand's Defense Minister, overseeing military integration efforts with Australia. The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) is working towards a fully integrated force with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) by 2035, which includes personnel embedding, shared capabilities, and synchronized training.
Current defense spending is projected to rise from around 1% to 2% of GDP over the next seven years, responding to calls for a rapid increase in military readiness, as emphasized by Chief of Defence Air Marshal Tony Davies. This integration is intended to bolster operational effectiveness while allowing both nations to maintain their sovereignty.
