BIOFUELSCIRCULAR ECONOMY & RECYCLING

The Nicosia District Local Government Organisation will manage the Kotsiatis landfill to harness trapped biogas, converting it to electricity to support local communities and reduce reliance on conventional electricity. As of July 1, 2024, the organisation faces 325,000 pending development permits but is processing applications at rates of 94% for town planning and 99% for building permits.

The organisation oversees a 2,565-kilometre water supply network serving over 170,000 meters, having completed 8,248 repairs and upgrades. Plans are in place to reduce non-revenue water currently at 20%.

The sewerage network spans 1,645 kilometres, with projects aimed to enhance pumping capacity and treatment plants. A tender for sewerage construction works worth approximately €85 million is upcoming. Additionally, the organisation is expanding Green Points to strengthen the circular economy and reduce landfill waste.
