Nigeria Government Supports Sustainable Aviation Fuel Development
The Federal Government of Nigeria is committed to developing Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) through policy support and a newly inaugurated steering committee. This initiative aims to reduce aviation emissions, enhance energy security, and create job opportunities, while aligning with international climate goals.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has pledged support for the development of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), providing necessary policy direction and regulatory clarity. The initiative was highlighted during the inauguration of the SAF Steering Committee, which will oversee the implementation of SAF in Nigeria, facilitated by studies from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the European Union.
Nigeria's potential for SAF production is backed by its abundant biomass resources and strategic location. Successful implementation could position Nigeria as a leader in sustainable aviation within Africa and attract significant investment, enhancing energy security and supporting economic diversification. However, establishing a clear regulatory framework will be critical to attract investors and scale production.
