Nigeria Hosts Summit to Enhance Low-Carbon Hydrogen Economy with EU and ECOWAS
The Energy Commission of Nigeria will host a summit from June 23 to 25, 2026, to advance a low-carbon hydrogen economy. This initiative aims to align national efforts and explore opportunities in hydrogen technologies among stakeholders in Nigeria.

From June 23 to 25, 2026, the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) will convene a summit in Abuja focused on developing a low-carbon hydrogen economy. More than 50 representatives from federal agencies, private sector, and international partners will participate in discussions, which will include 15 technical sessions on production technologies, infrastructure, financing, and governance.
The summit aims to enhance Nigeria's competitive position in the hydrogen market, leveraging its natural gas reserves and renewable resources. It aligns with existing frameworks including the National Energy Policy 2022 and the Climate Change Act 2021. A proposed 10-Point Hydrogen Leapfrog Perspective will emerge from the deliberations, reflecting institutional commitments to support Nigeria's hydrogen ambitions, further backed by the EU and other international partners.
