Ofgem Approves Early Funding for Key Energy Projects in Great Britain
Ofgem has authorized early construction funding for 26 electricity transmission projects in Scotland, enhancing energy security. These initiatives aim to accelerate the transition to clean energy, ensuring substantial renewable capacity and reducing reliance on volatile energy markets.
Ofgem has granted early construction funding (ECF) for 26 electricity transmission projects, crucial for enhancing Great Britain's energy security. These initiatives will upgrade Scotland's electricity network, including a new power line capable of supplying 1 million homes and supporting infrastructure upgrades to reduce constraint costs for consumers.
The Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) program, launched in 2022, aims to expedite the delivery of essential projects to meet government clean power targets and decrease reliance on foreign energy. By securing early funding, transmission operators can procure critical materials, mitigating procurement delays amid global decarbonization efforts. The projects are expected to deliver benefits by 2030, subject to necessary planning consents.
