Oman Invests $1.6 Billion in Sohar Polysilicon Plant to Boost Global Market Position
Oman's Sohar Freezone polysilicon plant, with a $1.6 billion investment, aims to produce 100,000 tonnes annually, positioning Oman as a key player in the global market. This initiative aligns with Oman Vision 2040's goals, enhancing economic diversification and renewable energy capabilities.

The Sohar polysilicon plant, with an investment of RO 616 million (US$1.6 billion), is set to produce 100,000 tonnes of high-purity polysilicon annually. This facility is the largest of its kind in the Middle East and will support solar power generation and green hydrogen initiatives.
The project's strategic location offers access to global markets and logistics networks, promoting downstream industries and enhancing the national economy's competitiveness. With over 80% of funding sourced from Omani institutions and banks, the project reflects strong local and regional investment confidence. As demand for solar energy rises, Oman aims to become the world’s second-largest polysilicon producer, enhancing its role in global clean energy supply chains.
