ONGC Completes Second Geothermal Well in Ladakh, Advances Towards 1 MW Power Plant
ONGC Energy Centre has drilled India's second geothermal well in Ladakh, paving the way for a 1 MW pilot power plant. This project is crucial for expanding renewable energy sources in India.

ONGC Energy Centre has drilled a geothermal well in the Puga Valley of Ladakh, reaching 1,000 metres within one month. This well, India's second, enhances ONGC's expertise in geothermal energy under challenging conditions.
Faster completion and lower costs were achieved compared to the first geothermal drilling campaign. The successful drilling paves the way for India's first 1 megawatt electric (1 MWe) pilot geothermal power plant, aimed at demonstrating the commercial viability of geothermal energy. The project may significantly impact the renewable energy landscape in India, potentially influencing policy and investment in this sector.
