Ontario Launches Program to Replace Oil Heating with Heat Pumps
The IESO's initiative offers $25,000 per household for low-income residents to transition from oil heating to heat pumps, aiming to improve energy efficiency and reduce costs. Applications are open until October 2026, targeting over 2,100 homes.

Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) has initiated a program to aid low-income households in replacing oil heating systems with heat pumps. Each eligible household can receive $25,000 for the transition, with no upfront costs for participants.
The program, launched in September 2025, aims to enroll over 2,100 homes and is accepting applications until October 2026. The average household can save approximately $1,400 annually by switching. As oil prices remain volatile, heat pumps offer a stable and reliable heating solution. The program is expected to enhance energy efficiency and reduce dependency on oil.
