Orasqualia to Implement Biogas Power Unit at New Cairo Wastewater Treatment Plant
Orasqualia, a joint venture of Orascom Construction and AqualiaME, will install a biogas power generation unit in Egypt. This initiative will significantly enhance energy efficiency and sustainability in wastewater management.
Orasqualia has signed an agreement with the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) to establish a biogas power generation unit at the New Cairo Wastewater Treatment Plant. The plant, operational since 2013 and recognized as Egypt's first public-private partnership (PPP) for wastewater, will utilize biogas to generate approximately 36 megawatts per day, fulfilling 60-70% of its electricity demand.
This project aims to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and contribute to sustainable wastewater infrastructure. The implementation of renewable energy in this facility may set a precedent for similar projects in the region, enhancing energy security and environmental sustainability.
