Partizánske Advances District Heating Modernization with EIB and TARGET Programme Support
Partizánske, Slovakia, is modernizing its district heating system following the 2018 coal phase-out announcement. The town collaborated with Friends of the Earth-CEPA to develop a pre-feasibility study, identifying geothermal energy and wastewater heat recovery as key solutions. In August 2024, a technical assistance agreement with the European Investment Bank (EIB) was signed, confirming the findings of the initial study. The project, estimated at EUR 6.1 million, aims to secure funding and implement a two-pipe system to improve efficiency.

Partizánske, Slovakia, is transitioning its district heating system in response to the national coal phase-out mandated by the government in December 2018.
