Pennsylvania DEP Allocates $4.6 Million to Erie and Crawford for Electric Grid Improvements
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) announced an investment of over $10 million in electric grid infrastructure across nine counties. Northwestern Rural Electric Cooperative in Erie and Crawford County received $4.6 million to connect two substations, which is expected to reduce outages by 85%.
This initiative will assist around 20,000 residents in minimizing weather-related outages. Other funded projects include REA Energy Cooperative in Cambria, Indiana, and Westmoreland counties ($1.5 million), Duncannon ($500K), Claverack Rural Electric Cooperative in Susquehanna County ($2,193,767), and Hatfield ($355,945). The funding is sourced from Pennsylvania Grid Resilience Grants.
