Pertamina Launches Commercial Production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel from Used Cooking Oil
PT Pertamina Patra Niaga commenced commercial production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) from used cooking oil in March 2026, meeting rising demand in the aviation sector. This initiative supports Indonesia's transition to greener energy and aligns with national energy independence goals.

In March 2026, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga officially began commercial production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) derived from used cooking oil (UCO) at its Cilacap refinery. The company produced approximately 45,000 barrels of SAF compliant with international quality standards, including Defence Standard (DEFSTAN) 91-091 and CORSIA eligibility.
This development follows a series of production trials initiated in July 2025, with raw materials sourced from ISCC-certified used cooking oil. The SAF is distributed to Soekarno-Hatta and Ngurah Rai airports, enhancing the company's role in Indonesia's energy transition and commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2060.
