PGCIL Secures INR 1,800 Crore for Transmission Upgrade Projects in Tamil Nadu

POWER GRIDS & TRANSMISSION

Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has been awarded two significant transmission upgrade projects in Tamil Nadu under the regulated tariff mechanism (RTM) framework, with a total estimated cost of over INR 1,800 crore. The first project upgrades the 400kV Udumalpet-Madurai line from a single-circuit to a double-circuit (quad) line for INR 643 crore, addressing the line's surge impedance loading limit and enhancing capacity for renewable energy generation.

This project is projected to complete in more than 2 years. The second project involves reconductoring two 400kV double-circuit lines (Tirunelveli-Udumalpet and Pugalur-Madurai) with HTLS conductor, supporting a capacity of 2,100MVA, with a budget of INR 1,193.5 crore and a completion timeline of 2 years.
