PGE Prepares Infrastructure for 55 MW Lumut Balai Unit 3 Geothermal Power Plant in South Sumatra
PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) is developing the Lumut Balai Unit 3 geothermal power plant in South Sumatra, which will have a capacity of 55 MW. The project is in the infrastructure preparation phase, with drilling expected to commence in Q2 2026.
Contracts for constructing well pads and access roads have been signed to facilitate heavy equipment mobility during drilling. Construction crews and equipment mobilization began in February 2026. This project aligns with PGE's strategy to increase national geothermal capacity and is part of the RUPTL 2025-2034 and prioritized in the Ministry of Planning's Blue Book 2025-2029. PGE currently manages a total installed capacity of 727 MW across six operational areas.
