The Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) was launched in April 2024 during a trilateral summit with the Philippines, the US, and Japan. This corridor aims to integrate logistics, industrial, and urban hubs across Luzon, including Subic Bay, Clark, Manila, and Batangas.
The LEC is positioned as the first economic corridor in the Indo-Pacific under the G7-backed Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGI). It seeks to drive investments in infrastructure projects such as railways, ports, clean energy systems, agribusiness, and semiconductor supply chains.
Metro Manila contributes approximately 36% of the Philippines' GDP, while Batangas and Central Luzon contribute around 17% and 9%, respectively. Despite skepticism regarding the LEC's clarity and potential, proponents emphasize its potential for economic transformation through coordinated efforts and regional integration.
