Philippines Secures Additional Black Hawk Helicopters for Air Force
The Philippine government has approved the acquisition of up to 32 additional S-70i Black Hawk helicopters, aimed at modernizing its Air Force and replacing outdated Huey helicopters. This move is crucial for enhancing airlift capabilities in a nation with significant geographical challenges and security concerns.

The Philippine Air Force is set to acquire up to 32 more S-70i Black Hawk helicopters, with an approval from President Rodrigo Duterte. This initiative responds to the urgent need to replace aging Bell UH-1 Huey helicopters, which have faced safety issues resulting in multiple fatalities.
The acquisition will bring the total Black Hawk fleet to 48, complementing the 16 already on order, with the first deliveries made in November 2020. The helicopters are produced by Poland's PZL Mielec, a subsidiary of Lockheed Martin. The modernization of the fleet is vital for operational efficiency in a country with over 7,400 islands and ongoing insurgencies.
