Policy Risk Hinders Sustainable Aviation Fuel Projects' Investment Decisions
Policy risk is a significant barrier to final investment decisions (FID) for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) projects, exacerbated by the cancellation of previous environmental legislation. Currently, 50 SAF facilities are operational globally, with 42 at FID and over 150 in planning. Approximately 50 additional SAF plants have been stalled or canceled before reaching FID.

Policy risk is identified as a major obstacle to achieving final investment decisions (FID) for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) projects. This issue has been intensified by the cancellation of former environmental legislation by US President Donald Trump.
According to Bloomberg NEF, there are 50 SAF facilities currently in operation worldwide, with an additional 42 having reached FID and over 150 in various planning stages. Furthermore, it is estimated that around 50 SAF plants have been stalled or canceled prior to achieving FID.
