PowerChina Expands Role in South Africa's Energy Sector
PowerChina seeks to enhance its involvement in South Africa’s energy sector, leveraging investment opportunities worth R2.2 trillion through 2039. The company's projects include significant renewable energy and water infrastructure initiatives critical for the nation’s development goals.

PowerChina aims to strengthen its presence in South Africa's energy market, participating in projects with a total capacity of 1.9 GW in renewable energy and 1.9 GWh in battery storage. The Beijing conference indicated over R2.2 trillion in investment opportunities by 2039, as South Africa's Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) 2025 targets 105 GW of new generation capacity and 14,500 km of transmission infrastructure.
Notably, the 100 MW Redstone project exemplifies PowerChina's commitment to innovative energy solutions. Additionally, the Mokolo - Crocodile Water Augmentation Project Phase 2A aims to secure vital water supplies for energy production and local communities, underscoring the interconnectedness of water and energy infrastructure.
