Princeton Digital Group Partners with Pertamina Patra Niaga to Supply Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil for Indonesian Data Centers
In a significant move toward sustainability, Princeton Digital Group (PDG), a prominent data center developer in the Asia-Pacific, has announced a strategic partnership with Pertamina Patra Niaga, Indonesia's state-owned producer of renewable diesel. This collaboration will facilitate the deployment of hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) in PDG's Indonesian operations, marking a pivotal shift from traditional diesel usage.
Varoon Raghavan, PDG's Chief Operating Officer and co-founder, articulated the company’s commitment to responsible growth, stating that this partnership reflects the urgent need for sustainable practices as Indonesia's digital economy expands. The integration of HVO, a biofuel produced from vegetable oils and fats, is anticipated to drastically reduce carbon emissions from backup generators by 70 to 90 percent, thereby significantly improving air quality and decreasing harmful pollutants.
While the exact volume of HVO to be supplied and the terms of the agreement remain undisclosed, the initiative aligns with PDG's broader goal of achieving net zero emissions across its scope 1 and 2 operations by 2030. Alimuddin Baso, director of central marketing and trading at Pertamina Patra Niaga, emphasized that this partnership is a crucial step in advancing Indonesia's sustainability journey.
PDG has been actively pursuing decarbonization strategies, having previously engaged with PT Cikarang Listrindo Tbk for biomass energy at its Cibitung data center and acquiring renewable energy certificates from the Kamojang geothermal plant operated by Pertamina. Founded in 2017, PDG also operates data centers in China, Singapore, India, Malaysia, and Japan, and recently secured $1.2 billion in financing to bolster its growth across the Asia-Pacific region. This latest agreement underscores PDG's commitment to setting new benchmarks for sustainable digital infrastructure in a rapidly evolving landscape.
