Project VOLT has entered its proof-of-concept phase with £500,000 in funding to enhance energy resilience in the North East through hybrid microgrids. Led by LCP Delta on behalf of Northern Powergrid, with partners including Newcastle University, EDF, Northern Gas Networks, and Wales & West Utilities, the project aims to cut peak electricity demand by up to 30% and emissions by 80%.

It will involve detailed modeling with key industrial sites like the Port of Tyne and Newcastle Airport to assess energy needs and challenges. The project seeks to develop scalable models for efficient energy use across Great Britain.
