PuriFire Energy Joins UK Consortium for Green Methanol Shipping Pilot
PuriFire Energy has joined a UK government-supported consortium to pilot green methanol production for shipping, utilizing waste streams as feedstock. The initiative, part of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition 6 (CMDC6), includes partners such as Shoreham Port, Associated British Ports, Newcastle University, Xpress Feeders, and the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult.
The project aims to assess the feasibility of producing green methanol from wastewater and waste carbon at scale as a marine fuel. Key workstreams involve developing a pilot plant, conducting life-cycle analyses, and testing feedstocks.
This project underscores the UK's commitment to low-carbon maritime fuels amid slow international regulatory progress. The project's success could validate PuriFire Energy's technology, with potential implications for shipping fuel options and market adoption influenced by future regulations and pricing.
