Pyeongtaek City Welcomes Special Semiconductor Act to Boost National Semiconductor Industry
Pyeongtaek City has welcomed the Special Semiconductor Act, which passed the National Assembly on November 29, and announced plans to enhance cooperation with the central government and Gyeonggi Province to ensure effective implementation of national support. Mayor Jeong Jang-seon highlighted the expansion of the semiconductor ecosystem around Samsung Electronics and expressed expectations for the law to improve infrastructure and human resource development.
The city emphasized the need for consistent policies, increased national funding, and prioritization of specialized clusters. The P5 facility under construction at Samsung's Pyeongtaek Campus will integrate memory, foundry, and advanced packaging, serving as a key hub for AI.
A phased expansion to P6 is planned, necessitating stable national infrastructure support. The city will also seek support for the KAIST Pyeongtaek Campus as a center for AI semiconductor research. The local government aims to accelerate semiconductor company support and industry-academia collaboration to position Pyeongtaek as a global semiconductor hub.
