Quintana Roo Explores Floating Power Generation for Energy Supply Enhancement
Quintana Roo is evaluating the potential of a floating electricity generating ship to meet rising energy demands. The project aims to support energy self-sufficiency amid expected annual electricity demand growth of 3.8% in the Yucatán Peninsula.

The government of Quintana Roo is assessing the feasibility of deploying a Turkish Karpowership, a floating energy solution with a capacity of 250 megawatts (MW). This initiative aims to enhance the state's energy supply, particularly during peak demand periods and operational challenges.
The Karpowership project includes a liquefied natural gas terminal vessel, aligning with environmental standards to mitigate impacts on coastal ecosystems. Additionally, construction of a gas pipeline is under consideration, which would necessitate interlinking with adjacent state infrastructure. With electricity demand on the Yucatán Peninsula projected to grow at 3.8% annually, this project could play a crucial role in stabilizing energy supply while supporting local economic growth.
