QuTech Develops QARPET Chip Architecture for Scalable Spin Qubit Testing

QUANTUM COMPUTINGSEMICONDUCTOR

Researchers at QuTech in Delft, Netherlands, have developed the QARPET chip architecture to facilitate testing and scaling of semiconductor spin qubits. This platform allows for the simultaneous characterization of hundreds of qubits under operational conditions typical of quantum computing.

QARPET features a tiled design with a grid of small, repeatable units, each comprising two spin qubits and a charge sensor. The first prototype includes a 23x23 grid potentially hosting 1,058 qubits while utilizing only 53 control lines. The architecture demonstrates high-density qubit integration and is compatible with existing semiconductor fabrication processes, paving the way for advancements in quantum technology.
