R-Project Transmission Line Construction Authorized Amid Legal Challenges
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has authorized construction of the R-Project Transmission Line, which spans 226 miles in Nebraska. Opponents are actively pursuing legal action to halt the project, citing environmental concerns.

The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service has approved the construction of Nebraska Public Power District's R-Project Transmission Line under an expedited permitting process. This involves a 226-mile high voltage line with towers reaching 100-200 feet tall, set to begin construction in June 2026, with drilling and helical pier installations planned for mid-2026.
Legal opposition from Preserve the Sandhills and other plaintiffs has already commenced, including a filed petition for a preliminary injunction. The project will connect NPPD's substation at Gerald Gentleman Station to substations in Thomas and Holt counties, impacting multiple Nebraska counties. The ongoing litigation may delay the project further, posing risks to timelines and costs.
