Rajasthan Permits Temporary Use of Alternative Fuels Amid Global Energy Supply Disruptions
The Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board has authorized temporary use of alternative fuels in response to global energy supply disruptions caused by the US-Israel-Iran conflict. This measure applies to industries, hotels, and restaurants and includes fuels like low sulphur heavy stock, high speed diesel, biomass, and refuse derived fuel pellets. The relaxation will remain in effect until April 12, as a temporary arrangement to address current challenges. The order aligns with recommendations from the Central Pollution Control Board and emphasizes the need for cleaner energy options.

The Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board (RSPCB) has allowed the temporary use of alternative fuels in industries, hotels, and restaurants due to global energy supply disruptions linked to the US-Israel-Iran conflict. The approval followed requests from various stakeholders.
Permitted fuels include low sulphur heavy stock, high speed diesel, biomass, and refuse derived fuel pellets, previously restricted to control air pollution. Kerosene and coal may also be used if alternatives are unavailable.
This order is effective until April 12 and aims to provide short-term relief. Experts advocate for expanding cleaner energy sources, such as biogas, as a sustainable solution.
