NNPC Launches Oil Exploration and Biofuel Initiative in Benue State
NNPC is set to begin oil exploration in the Benue Trough, including areas like Makurdi and Guma, to enhance reserves. A concurrent biofuel project aims to create around one million jobs through the establishment of a sugar cane plantation and processing facilities.

NNPC has initiated oil exploration in the Benue Trough, specifically targeting Local Government Areas such as Makurdi and Guma. This activity follows a Presidential directive focused on increasing oil reserves through inland basin exploration.
Alongside this, a biofuel project is planned, expected to generate approximately one million jobs and include a sugar cane plantation, a processing plant, and a cogeneration power facility. The combined efforts of these initiatives present substantial potential for economic development and community engagement in the region. However, challenges in infrastructure and investment may pose risks to their successful implementation.
