Reterra Processes Up to 500 Tons of Organic Waste Daily for Biogas and Compost
Reterra West GmbH & Co. KG converts organic waste into compost and biogas, processing 40 tons per hour. The facility operates with a high degree of automation and relies on a continuous supply of biomass to maintain bacterial activity, crucial for biogas production.

Reterra West GmbH & Co. KG processes up to 500 tons of organic waste daily, converting this material into compost, substrates, and biogas. The facility can handle 40 tons of biomass each hour, with 10 tons going directly to composting and 30 tons sent for anaerobic digestion.
The fermentation process occurs in two 1,350-ton capacity digesters, producing about 12,000 cubic meters of biogas per day. Continuous input of organic waste is essential to keep bacterial activity stable, particularly during winter months when waste supply decreases. Regular maintenance of machinery, including shredders, is critical for operational efficiency.
