Ras Al-Khair IWPP Overview: Key Project Details
The Ras Al-Khair Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP) in Saudi Arabia was commissioned in 2014, focusing on dual-fuel power generation. Owned by Saline Water Conversion, it utilizes natural gas primarily and can switch to fuel oil if required.

Ras Al-Khair IWPP, developed by Saline Water Conversion and Saudi Electricity, is currently owned by Saline Water Conversion. The plant, operational since 2014, employs combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) technology and is designed to run on natural gas with a backup option of fuel oil.
Siemens supplied essential components, including 10 SGT6-5000F gas turbines, 5 SST6-4000 steam turbines, and SGen6-1000A electric generators, as well as steam boilers. Saudi Arabian Mining and Saudi Electricity are the power offtakers for this project, while Al Arrab Contracting and SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction were contracted for engineering procurement and construction services. The reliance on dual-fuel capability may mitigate operational risks during fuel supply fluctuations.
