Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Ships Over One Million Tons of Anthracite Coal for Third Consecutive Year
Reading Blue Mountain & Northern (RBMN) has shipped over one million tons of Anthracite coal for the third consecutive year, driven by a nearly 20% growth in the domestic market, particularly for American steel production. Most shipments were directed to electric-arc furnace steel mills across the U.S., prompting RBMN to purchase additional covered hopper railcars to accommodate increasing demand. The company plans to continue expanding its fleet to support further growth in 2026.

Reading Blue Mountain & Northern (RBMN) announced it has shipped over one million tons of Anthracite coal for the third consecutive year, despite a downturn in export volume in 2025. The domestic market, primarily supporting American steel production, has driven this business segment, which grew nearly 20% in 2025.
Most shipments were directed to electric-arc furnace (EAF) steel mills across the U.S. To accommodate this growth, RBMN purchased additional covered hopper railcars in mid-December, with delivery anticipated in January or February. This new equipment will join a fleet of nearly 2,000 railcars, and RBMN plans to continue equipment purchases to meet increasing domestic demand in 2026.
