Red Sea International Airport Receives Level 1 Carbon Accreditation in Saudi Arabia

Red Sea International Airport (RSI) in Saudi Arabia has achieved Level 1 accreditation under the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, which certifies airports' carbon management efforts. This milestone positions RSI as a leader in sustainable aviation infrastructure and is the first step towards attaining Level 5 accreditation by 2027.

The airport, built to LEED Platinum standards, features a modular terminal design that optimizes energy usage and reduces overall demand. Additionally, RSI is the first airport in Saudi Arabia to provide Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and is implementing all-electric ground service equipment.

The airport's growth is intentionally limited to ensure it accommodates no more than one million visitors annually at The Red Sea and 500,000 at AMAALA, aligning with environmental thresholds. RSI aims for net zero emissions on scope 1 and 2 by 2027, establishing itself as a benchmark for sustainable airport operations.
