Regent Unveils Military Seaglider 'Squire' for Testing
Regent has showcased its military-grade Seaglider, Squire, designed for various missions without onboard crew. This development is significant as it marks progress towards operational deployment of unmanned maritime vehicles.
Regent has introduced the Squire, a military-grade variant of the Seaglider, capable of carrying 50 pounds (23 kg) of cargo at speeds up to 81 mph (130 kph) and a range of 115 miles (185 km) on a single charge. The Squire, measuring 13 feet (4 meters) in length, is currently undergoing extensive testing to validate its technology and enhance defense capabilities.
It operates by utilizing the wing-in-ground-effect, allowing it to rise above water on hydrofoils after gaining speed. Regent is also developing two additional military variants of the Seaglider, including a hybrid version and a troop transport model, though timelines for their operational readiness remain uncertain. The advancements in unmanned vehicles could significantly enhance naval operations and surveillance capabilities.
