Renewed Focus on India-Israel Defense Cooperation Amid Controversy
India's defense collaboration with Israel is under scrutiny due to allegations of military-grade steel shipments linked to Israeli arms production amid active conflicts. The controversy highlights the extensive military trade relationship, with India accounting for 34% of Israel's arms exports from 2020 to 2024, and the ongoing joint production initiatives.

Allegations have surfaced regarding military-grade steel shipments from India to Israeli manufacturing facilities, coinciding with conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon. The shipments, valued at approximately USD 1 million, were tracked by activist groups and reportedly contained around 806 tonnes of alloy steel capable of producing up to 17,458 artillery shells.
These consignments originated from RL Steels and Energy Limited and were destined for Elbit Systems Land in Israel. Protests against suspected military cargo have emerged in European ports, emphasizing the scrutiny on arms-related shipments.
India's defense partnership with Israel encompasses various technologies, including drones and missile systems, with a significant joint venture producing Hermes 900 UAVs in Hyderabad since 2018. As Israel relies on India for a substantial portion of its arms exports, the implications of this cooperation extend to geopolitical dynamics and regional security.
