Residents of Baner and Balewadi Demand New Substation Amid Ongoing Power Cuts
Residents of Baner and Balewadi protest for a new electricity substation to mitigate ongoing power outages affecting daily life. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has initiated tendering for the project, which was allocated land in 2024, but residents express dissatisfaction over delays and inadequate service.

A protest by approximately 50 residents in Baner highlighted demands for a separate electricity substation to alleviate frequent power cuts in Baner and Balewadi. MSEDCL officials indicated that the project is at the tendering stage, with a completion timeline set for two years after land allocation in 2024.
Residents criticized MSEDCL for approving new commercial connections despite existing supply issues, noting that outages have increased from two to three hours to six or seven hours weekly. Concerns were raised about public safety due to exposed high-tension cables and inadequate restoration of underground cables damaged during Metro work. Complaints have been submitted by nearly 50 housing societies, and residents are considering further action if their demands are not met.
