The municipality of Rietschen, Germany, is pursuing new business development after a previous project was halted due to protected garlic toads. The mayor announced intentions to relocate the toads to enable business activities, including a planned 40 million Euro biogas facility by Envitec Biogas AG.
The project aimed to create ten jobs but was blocked due to environmental concerns. The Deutsche Telekom will begin installing fiber optic cables this summer, with completion expected by the end of next year.
Additionally, Lausitz Energie Bergbau AG plans a 100 MW photovoltaic facility and wind turbines in the Altliebel energy park. Rietschen is also developing the Teicha business area and completing a co-working center, aiming to finalize rental agreements by 2027.
