RISC-V International Association in Switzerland Aims to Disrupt Semiconductor Industry
The RISC-V International Association, located in Zurich, is promoting its open-source Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) to disrupt the semiconductor market dominated by Intel and ARM. This ISA allows smaller companies to create customized hardware without incurring high licensing fees.
Established in 2015 and moved to Switzerland in 2020, RISC-V has grown to over 4,500 members, including major firms like Nvidia and Huawei. The US Congress has raised concerns about China's adoption of RISC-V to enhance its semiconductor capabilities. RISC-V aims to become the preferred ISA for chip design, fostering innovation while maintaining stability and proper governance in the industry.
