Roissy-CDG Ranked 7th in Global CO2 Emissions; ADP Outlines Environmental Plans
Roissy Charles-de-Gaulle airport emitted 14.7 million tonnes of CO2 in 2023, making it the 7th highest among global airports. Aéroports de Paris (ADP) aims to increase capacity to 105 million passengers by 2050, with significant emissions reduction targets.
Roissy-CDG airport recorded 14.7 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in 2023, ranking 7th globally for CO2 output, according to the 'Airport Tracker 2024' report by ODI Global, T&E, and ICCT. ADP plans to expand capacity from 82 to 105 million passengers by 2050, predicting an increase of 28% in emissions in comparison to a no-build scenario.
The combined emissions from Parisian airports were three times that of Paris city. ADP anticipates a 19% increase in traffic by 2050, equating to about 592,000 aircraft movements annually. The company is targeting a 40% reduction in fine particulate matter and an 85% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions relative to 2019 levels by 2050.
ADP’s strategy includes becoming a low-carbon energy hub through electrification and sustainable aviation fuel. The T&E study states that 1,300 airports emitted over 1 billion tonnes of CO2 globally in 2023.
