Rondo Energy to Install 100MWh Heat Battery at Covestro's Brunsbüttel Site in Germany
Rondo Energy is installing a 100MWh heat battery at Covestro's Brunsbüttel facility in Germany to decarbonize industrial heat. The project will supply approximately 10% of the site's steam demand and aims to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 13,000 tonnes annually. The installation, supported by Breakthrough Energy Catalyst and the European Investment Bank, is expected to begin operations by the end of 2026.

Rondo Energy is constructing a 100MWh heat battery at Covestro's Brunsbüttel site in Germany to decarbonize industrial heat. The system converts surplus renewable electricity into high-temperature steam, supplying about 10% of the site's steam demand and reducing CO₂ emissions by up to 13,000 tonnes per year.
Scheduled for operation by the end of 2026, the project is funded by Breakthrough Energy Catalyst and the European Investment Bank. This technology aims to address industrial heat demand while balancing power grids with renewable energy. Covestro plans to assess the technology for broader implementation.
