Santa Monica will receive $841,000 for upgrading its 911 emergency communications center, part of a $13.77 million federal grant package led by Rep. Ted Lieu. The grant, sourced from the DOJ's COPS Technology and Equipment account, aims to replace outdated dispatcher consoles last upgraded in 2002, which are increasingly difficult to maintain.
Additional funding within the package includes $2 million for the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District and $1.2 million for a hydrogen bus pilot in Culver City. Over the past five years, Lieu has secured $58.8 million for various projects across Los Angeles County, reflecting a significant investment in local infrastructure and community needs.
