Sarawak Innovates in Sustainable Aviation Fuel from Palm Oil
Sarawak is advancing in the sustainable aviation fuel sector through research on palm oil-derived components. The use of palm fatty acid distillate (PFAD) as a raw material for aircraft fuel could enhance local economic growth and green technology development.

Sarawak is exploring the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) using palm oil-derived palm fatty acid distillate (PFAD). This initiative is being researched by the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) and aims to position Sarawak as a leader in green technology and alternative energy.
The Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, emphasized that locally produced SAF will be utilized by AirBorneo and will contribute to the local economy and infrastructure. Additionally, Japan's plans to expand algae cultivation were mentioned, highlighting regional interest in sustainable fuel sources. The project could significantly impact Sarawak's energy sector and economic landscape.
