Schneider Electric Powers World's First Commercial E-Methanol Plant at Kassø Facility

METHANOL

Schneider Electric has provided the technology stack for European Energy's Kassø Power-to-X facility, the first commercially viable e-methanol plant. The facility, powered by the adjacent 304 MW Kassø Solar Park, captures biogenic CO2 to produce up to 42,000 tonnes of e-methanol annually.

Global demand for e- and bio-methanol is projected to reach 500 million tons by 2050. Schneider's integrated automation and energy management solutions optimize production, enhancing performance and cost-efficiency.

The technology includes Modicon M580 PLCs, SIL-certified safety modules, and low-voltage drives, ensuring reliable operations. The AVEVA System Platform provides real-time visibility and control. Of note, confirmed offtakers include Maersk, Novo Nordisk, and LEGO Group. The facility also supports district heating for 3,300 homes, contributing to both local and global sustainability goals.
