Seattle Increases Funding for Immigrant Legal Services and Community Grants
Seattle's new funding initiatives allocate nearly $4 million to enhance legal defense for immigrants and support community groups. This response addresses urgent needs amid shifting federal policies affecting local immigrant populations.

Seattle's Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs (OIRA) has announced a significant increase in funding, including $1.25 million annually to the Legal Defense Network for legal representation of immigrants facing deportation. In 2025, this program provided direct legal support to 358 individuals.
Additionally, $280,000 will be allocated for small grants up to $10,000 for grassroots organizations to address immediate community needs. Further funding of $1 million for immigrant inclusion, $750,000 for community programs, and $75,000 for language access is anticipated later this spring. These initiatives aim to strengthen community resources and legal support amid ongoing challenges in federal immigration policy.
