Shell to Construct Major Hydrogen Plant in Rotterdam by 2025
Shell plans to build Europe's largest renewable hydrogen plant in Rotterdam, aimed at producing 60,000 kg of hydrogen daily. The facility will partially support the decarbonization of traditional jet fuel production.

Shell is set to begin construction of a 200MW renewable hydrogen plant at Tweede Maasvlakte, Rotterdam, with completion expected by 2025. The facility will generate up to 60,000 kilograms of hydrogen per day, utilizing power from the Hollandse Kust (Noord) offshore wind farm.
Although the hydrogen will not directly fuel aircraft, it will contribute to the Shell Energy and Chemicals Park, assisting in the production of jet fuel and other energy products. The output equates to about 168,000 kilograms of jet fuel, which highlights the gap between current sustainable fuel supply and aviation demand. Increased hydrogen production facilities are essential for advancing greener aviation solutions.
