Silicon Box in Novara Receives Open EU Foundry Certification for Semiconductor Production
Silicon Box's new facility in Novara has received Open EU Foundry certification, becoming Italy's second plant to achieve this European recognition for semiconductor production. Announced earlier this year, the facility will specialize in advanced semiconductor packaging, utilizing panel level packaging technology for greater efficiency and reduced costs. The certification under the European Chips Act provides administrative support, expedited authorization processes, and priority access to pilot lines from the Chips for Europe Initiative.

Silicon Box's new plant in Novara has been certified as an Open EU Foundry, marking its position as Italy's second facility with this recognition for semiconductor production. This plant focuses on advanced packaging, integrating multiple chiplets into a single functional unit.
It will employ panel level packaging (PLP) technology, enhancing production efficiency and lowering processing costs. Additionally, the facility will conduct panel-level testing to streamline assembly and reduce waste. The Open EU Foundry certification, part of the European Chips Act, offers advantages like dedicated administrative support and quicker authorization for plant constructions.
