Slovnaft to Launch Biofuel Production from Waste Oils Amid EU Regulations
Slovnaft is set to produce biofuels from waste oils, with an initial capacity of 40,000 tonnes annually. This initiative responds to EU renewable fuel mandates, including a requirement for sustainable aviation fuel.

Slovnaft plans a new facility focused on producing biofuels from waste oils and fats, submitting plans to Slovak environmental authorities. The initial production target is 40,000 tonnes per year, with potential expansion to 100,000 tonnes.
This project aligns with EU regulations mandating a rise in renewable fuel use, including 2% sustainable aviation fuel this year and 70% by 2050. The biofuel blending operation will be the first of its kind in Central Europe, joining existing facilities primarily in the Netherlands and Scandinavia. The investment is estimated at €22 million, part of Slovnaft's broader efforts to diversify beyond traditional fuels and enhance sustainability.
