South Dakota PUC Approves Philip Wind Project in Haakon County
The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission approved the Philip Wind Project in Haakon County on February 12, 2026. Philip Wind Partners, LLC plans to construct up to 87 turbines, generating 333 megawatts of energy across 68,300 acres, at an estimated cost of $750 million. Construction is set to begin in June 2026, pending pre-construction activities. The project will include a 230-kV transmission line and is expected to be the largest wind farm in South Dakota.

The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission granted a permit for the Philip Wind Project on February 12, 2026. Philip Wind Partners, LLC will construct up to 87 turbines on 68,300 acres, generating 333 megawatts of energy, at a cost of approximately $750 million.
Construction is anticipated to start in June 2026, following completion of pre-construction activities. The project includes a 5.5-mile 230-kV transmission line and will be the largest wind farm in South Dakota.
A settlement agreement with 55 conditions was submitted for consideration, addressing construction and operational requirements. The project also involves a 230-kV collector substation and other infrastructure.
