South Jersey Secures $99 Million for Beach Replenishment Projects
South Jersey will receive $99 million for beach replenishment from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, marking a significant investment in coastal protection. This funding targets erosion issues in multiple communities, providing vital support for local economies reliant on tourism.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has allocated $99 million for beach replenishment in Cape May County, focusing on Ocean City, Strathmere, Sea Isle City, Avalon, and Stone Harbor. This decision comes after severe erosion led to emergency declarations in some communities, prompting local officials to seek federal assistance.
The funding will mainly benefit Avalon and Stone Harbor with $46 million, while approximately $28 million will support Strathmere. Additionally, over $5 million is earmarked for dredging projects on local rivers.
U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew is pursuing an additional $70 million for further beach projects in Atlantic City and Long Beach Island. Despite construction timeline uncertainties, local officials are preparing for a busy summer season.
