Southern Energy Renewables will invest $1.4 billion to establish a green methanol and sustainable aviation fuel facility in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana. The project aims to convert wood-waste biomass into low lifecycle-carbon fuels, creating 120 direct jobs with an average salary of $97,267, and an estimated 394 indirect jobs. Construction is set to begin in late 2027, with production anticipated by late 2029.

Southern Energy Renewables announced a $1.4 billion investment to develop a green methanol and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana. The facility will convert regional wood-waste biomass into low lifecycle-carbon fuels.
The project is expected to create 120 direct jobs with an average salary of $97,267 and approximately 394 indirect jobs, totaling over 500 jobs. Construction is scheduled to start in late 2027, with production aimed for late 2029.
This will be Southern's first commercial-scale development in Louisiana, coinciding with a proposed merger with DevvStream. The investment reflects Louisiana's strategy to integrate traditional energy with emerging technologies.
